How to Install a Vessel Sink and Faucet

Vessel sinks transform a standard vanity into a centerpiece, but they require a precise approach to plumbing that differs from traditional drop-in models. The height of the basin dictates the type of faucet you choose, and the stability of the installation relies entirely on how well you anchor the unit to the countertop surface. Done well, a vessel installation feels integrated and solid, with no wobble or seepage. Because the sink sits entirely on top of the counter, the key is ensuring that the hole for the drain is perfectly centered and that your faucet height provides enough reach to clear the basin wall without causing splashing.

1. Mark the Drain Hole Precisely. Place the sink where you want it and mark the drain hole location. Use a hole saw bit matched to the size required by your drain assembly to drill through the countertop.
2. Secure the Faucet Assembly. Slide the faucet assembly through the mounting hole in the vanity top and secure it from below with the provided locking nut and washer. Connect your supply lines to the hot and cold valves, ensuring they are tightened with a basin wrench.
3. Seal the Drain Flange. Apply a ring of plumber's putty around the underside of the drain flange. Insert the flange into the sink drain hole from above.
4. Seat the Bowl Perfectly. Apply a thin bead of clear silicone adhesive to the bottom rim of the sink where it contacts the countertop. Set the sink over the drain flange and press down firmly.
5. Connect Drain Lines Gently. From underneath the counter, attach the rubber gasket and locknut to the drain tailpiece. Thread the P-trap onto the tailpiece and tighten the slip nuts by hand.
6. Verify All Connections Hold. Turn on the water supply and run the faucet for two minutes. Check all joints under the sink for moisture or drips.
