How to Install an In-Wall Power and Cable Management Kit

A wall-mounted TV is the pinnacle of a clean bedroom aesthetic until a tangle of dangling cords ruins the view. An in-wall power kit allows you to safely extend power from an existing outlet to a recessed connection behind your television, effectively hiding all wires inside the drywall cavity. Installing this system requires careful cutting and basic electrical intuition, but it saves you from hiring an electrician for a minor outlet relocation. When done well, your TV will sit flush against the wall with nothing but a sleek, hidden power path behind it. Keep your layout precise, and ensure you are working between the studs to avoid structural interference.

  1. Find Your Safe Path. Use a stud finder to identify a safe path between wall studs for your top and bottom grommets. Place the top hole at TV height and the bottom hole directly below it, near your existing floor-level power outlet.
  2. Slice With Precision. Trace the template included with your kit onto the drywall at both locations. Use a drywall saw to cut the holes, taking care to keep the cuts tight so the grommets can grip the wall firmly.
  3. Secure The Housing. Insert the lower power housing into the bottom hole. Use a screwdriver to turn the integrated mounting wings until they pull the grommet tight against the backside of the drywall.
  4. Thread The Cables. Feed your HDMI, optical, or coaxial cables through the hole from the top opening down to the bottom. Once through, pull the provided power extension cable through both housings.
  5. Power The Connection. Plug the male end of the extension cable into your existing wall outlet. Secure the female end into the top grommet housing behind the TV mounting bracket.
  6. Mount And Verify. Install your TV wall mount and plug the television power cord into the newly installed recessed receptacle. Attach your TV to the mount and verify that no cords are pinched.
