How to Install a Pot Filler Faucet
Installing a pot filler faucet requires running a new water supply line behind your stove and mounting the faucet to the wall, typically taking 2-4 hours for someone comfortable with basic plumbing.
- Plan Your Position. Shut off the main water supply to your home. Measure 20-24 inches above your cooktop and mark where you want the pot filler mounted. The faucet should extend far enough to reach all burners but not interfere with your range hood. Use a stud finder to locate wall studs for secure mounting.
- Cut Access Point. Mark a rectangular opening large enough for the pot filler valve body, typically 4x6 inches. Use a drywall saw to carefully cut the opening. Remove any insulation behind the wall and check for existing electrical wires or other utilities that might interfere with your water line routing.
- Route Cold Water. Install a new 1/2-inch copper or PEX supply line from your nearest cold water source to the pot filler location. This usually means tapping into the kitchen sink's cold water supply line. Use appropriate fittings and ensure all connections are secure. Route the line through the wall cavity to your marked location.
- Secure Supply Control. Mount a shut-off valve on the supply line inside the wall cavity. This valve should be easily accessible for maintenance. Use pipe hangers to secure the supply line and valve assembly to the wall studs, preventing movement and stress on connections.
- Flush Mount Faucet. Insert the pot filler's valve body through the wall opening and connect it to your supply line. Secure the mounting plate to the wall studs using appropriate screws. The faucet should sit flush against the wall with the spout extending horizontally over your cooktop.
- Check and Finish. Turn the water supply back on and test the pot filler for leaks and proper operation. Check that both joints of the articulating arm move smoothly and that water flow is adequate. Patch and paint around the mounting area to match your existing wall finish.
