How to Install a Hands-Free Smart Kitchen Faucet

Faucets with sensor technology transform how a kitchen functions, reducing mess and keeping handles cleaner during food prep. A smart faucet requires a slightly more complex installation than a standard model because you have to manage a control box and sensor wiring underneath the sink, but the process is well within the reach of any DIYer who knows their way around a wrench. Success in this project hinges on clear space under the sink and careful connection of the water lines. When done well, the faucet provides seamless, touch-free operation without leaks at the supply connections. Plan to clear out your undersink cabinet completely, as you will need the room to maneuver and mount the control module.

Stop Water Flow First. Close the hot and cold water valves under the sink. Open the current faucet to drain remaining pressure, then use a basin wrench to disconnect the supply lines from the shut-off valves.
Extract the Old Unit. Unscrew the mounting nuts holding the old faucet to the sink deck from underneath. Carefully lift the old faucet out from the top and clean the mounting surface of any old putty or grime.
Secure Faucet to Sink. Feed the new faucet supply lines and the sensor cable through the faucet hole in the sink. Secure the faucet to the sink deck using the provided mounting hardware, ensuring the gasket is properly seated.
Mount Control Box Safely. Mount the sensor control box to the cabinet wall or floor using the provided bracket. Keep the box away from any pipes that might vibrate excessively or leak.
Snap All Connectors Home. Attach the faucet output hose to the control box inlet and the spray head hose to the control box outlet. Snap the sensor cable from the faucet into the corresponding port on the control box.
Verify Water and Sensor Flow. Connect the supply lines back to your shut-off valves and tighten with a wrench. Install the batteries into the control box, turn the water back on, and test the sensor for activation.
