How to Conceal TV Wires Inside Your Wall
Visibility of tangled cords beneath a wall-mounted television is the single biggest eyesore in modern living room design. A clean, floating display requires moving the power and signal cables behind the drywall, effectively hiding the mess without the need for expensive surface-mounted plastic trunking. Executing this project well means following electrical safety codes while ensuring your wall remains structurally sound. You will be cutting two small holes in your drywall and using a specialized kit to bridge the space, creating a professional look that keeps your floor clear and your wall surface smooth.
- Map Your Wall Path First. Identify the exact location for the top hole behind the TV and the bottom hole near your power outlet. Use a stud finder to ensure you are not cutting into a wooden stud, as you must stay within the hollow cavity.
- Cut With Precision. Use a drywall saw to carefully cut along the lines you traced. Take it slow to avoid over-cutting or hitting hidden cables behind the wall.
- Secure Brackets Flush. Insert the plastic cable management brackets into the holes. Tighten the wing screws on the brackets so they grab the backside of the drywall firmly.
- Thread Cables Through Wall. Feed your HDMI, optical, and component cables through the top opening, letting them hang down toward the bottom hole. Use a weighted string or a fish tape if the wall insulation makes gravity-feeding difficult.
- Connect Power Safely. Run the included electrical conduit through the brackets following the manufacturer instructions for your specific kit. Secure the power input and output plates onto the brackets.
- Complete the Clean Look. Attach the brush-style or grommet faceplates to the brackets. Gently pull the slack through until your cables look neat and organized.
