How to Install a Modular Closet Organization System
Closet organization is the difference between a frantic morning and a smooth start to your day. A modular system gives you the freedom to adjust your layout as your storage needs change, moving shelves up or down without needing to patch or repaint the wall every time. To do this well, you must anchor the primary track firmly into your wall studs. If you rely solely on drywall anchors for the main support, the entire system will eventually pull away from the wall under the weight of your clothing. Invest in a level, take your time locating the studs, and the rest of the installation will snap into place easily.
- Clear the space completely. Remove all existing shelves, rods, and brackets from the closet. Patch any holes with spackle and sand them smooth to ensure a clean surface for the new installation.
- Locate every stud precisely. Use a stud finder to locate the center of every stud along the back wall where the closet system will mount. Mark these spots clearly with a pencil near the top of the wall.
- Mount the hang track level. Hold the hang track against the wall at your desired height and use a bubble level to ensure it is perfectly horizontal. Drive screws through the track and into every marked stud until the track is tight against the wall.
- Hang standards perfectly vertical. Hook the vertical standards into the slots on the hang track at the desired spacing. Use a level again to ensure the standards hang perfectly vertical before securing them to the wall at the bottom.
- Snap shelves into brackets. Insert shelf brackets into the vertical standards at the heights you need for your specific storage plan. Lay the shelves onto the brackets and snap them into place or lock them with the provided clips.
- Install rods and verify security. Snap the closet rod supports into the brackets and place the rods. Double-check all connections to ensure everything is locked securely before loading the closet with clothes.
