How to Conceal Cables Behind Your Media Center

Cables are the inevitable byproduct of a modern living room, yet they rarely contribute to the aesthetic of a well-designed space. When left to sprawl behind a media center, they create a visual distraction and a magnet for dust that is difficult to reach and clean. Achieving a tidy setup is not about making the technology disappear, but about imposing order on the chaos. A clean media center relies on grouping related cables together and securing them firmly to the furniture frame, ensuring that gravity doesn't undo your hard work by pulling cords into a tangled heap on the floor.

Label and untangle everything. Unplug every device and lay the cables out flat to untangle them completely. Group cables that share a path, such as those going to the TV and soundbar, and secure them with reusable hook-and-loop ties.
Secure clips to the console. Clean the back of your media console with isopropyl alcohol to remove dust and oils. Apply adhesive-backed cable clips at regular intervals along the underside or the back frame of the console.
Bundle cables into sleeves. Thread bundled cables through flexible nylon or neoprene cable sleeves to consolidate multiple wires into one clean line. Run this sleeve from the back of your console up toward the TV or power outlet.
Hide power strip in box. Place your power strip inside a dedicated cable management box designed to hide bulky transformers and excessive cord slack. Position this box on the bottom shelf or hidden behind the console base.
Cover wall-run cables cleanly. Use paintable cable raceways to cover any cords that must run along the wall surface to reach an outlet. Cut the raceway to length and secure it using the provided adhesive strip or small finish nails.
Verify all connections secure. Reconnect all devices one by one, checking that the cables have enough slack to allow for slight console movement without pulling on the ports. Verify that no wires are pinched between the console and the wall.
