How to Organize Under the Bathroom Sink

Clutter under the bathroom sink often becomes a graveyard for expired medicines, half-empty bottles, and mystery cleaning supplies. Because this space is interrupted by plumbing pipes and P-traps, it is frequently treated as a 'toss it and shut the door' zone, leading to a frustrating cycle of searching for basic necessities like toothpaste or extra hand soap. Transforming this cabinet is about reclaiming vertical space and creating accessibility. By installing sliding drawers or stackable units that work around your plumbing, you stop the overflow and make sure that everything you reach for—from extra sponges to daily grooming products—has a specific, visible home.

  1. Empty Everything Out. Empty the entire cabinet onto the floor. Check expiration dates on all medications and skincare products, and discard anything you haven't used in the last six months.
  2. Scrub Down the Space. Wipe down the floor and walls of the cabinet with a multi-purpose cleaner. Inspect the P-trap and supply lines for any signs of hidden leaks or moisture damage.
  3. Measure Around Pipes. Measure the width, depth, and height of the cabinet interior, specifically noting where the drain pipe sits. Avoid organizers that would force you to move or disconnect your plumbing.
  4. Lock Down Sliding Drawers. Place a sliding two-tier organizer on one side of the pipes. These pull-out drawers are essential for reaching items tucked in the back of the cabinet without knocking over everything in front.
  5. Group Into Clear Bins. Place smaller items like hair accessories, cotton balls, or makeup into clear acrylic bins. Group items by frequency of use so the products you use daily stay at the front.
  6. Maximize the Door Space. Attach an over-the-door adhesive organizer or a small basket to the inside of the door for lightweight items like hair brushes or a hair dryer.
